Sketch Saturday #620 Entry: Purple Border Cut Card

One of my favorite releases from Anna Griffin are her Border Cut and Emboss Folders. These folders, which don't necessarily work with your average Cuttlebug, but will with your Empress or Gemini, are some of the best tools in my card crafting arsenal. In one simple press, you can create a gorgeous border that's embossed.

This week, Sketch Saturday Blog released the perfect sketch for these dies. Sketch Saturday's challenge this week was as follows:

The strips that Anna Griffin's folder makes are quite large. Perfect for vertical 5 x 7 cards. Horizontal meant a lot more trimming on my part.

Anyway, here's the result:

What I ended up doing was cutting five different pieces. Four of the five pieces were the same purpler, and the fifth was a lighter purpler. I also used a different emboss folder for that fifth lighter color piece.

Check back later this week for more card contest and a review of Anna Griffin's Fantastic Flip die.

Anna Griffin Empress Machine Review

For the past few months, I've really given my Anna Griffin Empress Machine a workout. For those not in the know, The Empress is a high powered non-crank emboss and die cutting machine. It's akin to devices such as the Cuttlebug, The Big Shot, or the Gemini. I Have a Cricut / Cameo / Silhouette - Why This? The short answer is, you can create texture in your cards. My most complimented cards are not the ones with the most layers or even the most elegant, rather it's the cards with texture. Cricut and other Cutting Machines just lack that  ability to create the"feel" of a higher quality card. Pros of the Empress I absolutely adore my Empress. For those with arthritis or other mobility issues, a device like the Empress is a ...

Black and White Z Card

Over on the Just Us Girls challenge blog , the task this week was quite monochromatic. Let's take a look at the challenge: I can't say that I've ever worked with just black and white for a card. While no doubt I probably inadvertently made a card with this scheme, I can't say I've gone out of my way to enhance only black and white (I know I've definitely grey scaled before).  It was my dear friend Melinda's birthday. For her birthday I made her and her husband Mah Jongg t-shirts using HTV. I was thrilled with the results: Melinda is the kind of person who loves handmade cards, so I went into this challenge with her in mind. I also have recently fallen in love with Z fold cards (see my vintage masculine Z-Card here ). I pulled out my Sizzix Circle Thinlits and my Recollections Black and White Paper and got to work. Here are the results: So the interesting thing with a Z-fold card is how it unfolds in so many dimensions. Here is the front and back layer. Her...
