Scaredy Cat Cards

I'm working on a whole slew of Halloween and Fall cards as my card show is around the corner (September 26th). I've never done a card show during the Halloween and Fall season so it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Anyway, I was in need of inspiration and Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge Blog had the perfect colors to get me going. The colors to work with were white, black and gold. Perfect!

I recently acquired my Anna Griffin Scaredy Cat dies. Currently, they're only available on HSN, but I will also note to other Griffinites looking for that Halloween spirit that she dropped her Halloween Cut and Emboss Folders on her website just this week. Anyway, on with the show. The card I'm submitting I'm super proud of--let's take a look:

I used a black and white feathered background to give a spooky appeal. Then I used an assortment of different black white and golds for the desired effect. The gold is extremely reflective so you can see my shadow of where I was taking the picture. Additionally, I wanted to accentuate the gold, so I heat embossed a Trick or Treat stamp. Here's an angled picture of the card:
Of course, never one to do something just once, I also wanted to do a version of this cat but in white. So here is that:
I used a Tim Holtz "Dearly Departed" mixed media piece along with a raven background. 

These are really high quality dies that easily emboss on a single pass, so I'm thrilled with my purchase. Anyway, check back later this week for more Halloween and Fall cards I'm working through.

Black and White Z Card

Over on the Just Us Girls challenge blog , the task this week was quite monochromatic. Let's take a look at the challenge: I can't say that I've ever worked with just black and white for a card. While no doubt I probably inadvertently made a card with this scheme, I can't say I've gone out of my way to enhance only black and white (I know I've definitely grey scaled before).  It was my dear friend Melinda's birthday. Anna Griffin Empress Machine Review

For the past few months, I've really given my Anna Griffin Empress Machine a workout. For those not in the know, The Empress is a high powered non-crank emboss and die cutting machine. It's akin to devices such as the Cuttlebug, The Big Shot, or the Gemini. I Have a Cricut / Cameo / Silhouette - Why This? The short answer is, you can create texture in your cards. While the aforementioned devices are no doubt powerful and create designs that the Empress can only dream about, there's no doubt that emboss machines give textures and creates intricacy that cutting machines cannot compete with. My most complimented cards are not the ones with the most layers or even the most elegant, rather it's the cards with texture. Cricut and other Cutting Machines just lack that  ability to create the"feel" of a higher quality card. Pros of the Empress I absolutely adore my Empress. For those with arthritis or other mobility issues, a device like the Empress is a

HSN's 24 Hour of Craft is Underway!

Today is a 24 hours of crafts on HSN! We know how these days go. A host of craft items are showcased throughout the day, along with numerous deals. Today's big craft item is We R Keeper's all new Colop E-Mark Create Craft Printer . Normally retailing for $349.99, the price today on HSN is $299.99. To me, it looks amazing. If you haven't seen it in action, take a look: I love the idea of it, especially as a replacement for all those times where I'm looking for that perfect stamp. That said, I do have some big questions. Most importantly, how long does the ink last? Does it run for a 100 prints? 50 prints? 1,000 prints? There's no way of knowing, and no specification clarifies this.  Additionally, extra ink cartridges cost a startling $49.99. That's steep, even by ink cartridges standards.  This is rife with potential, but until a bigger bundle comes out with extra inks and those first reviews clarify some of my concerns, this item is getting a hard pass.
