Halloween Washi Cards

There are few cards I love making more than Washi cards. One: ease of making. Washi cards are so easy to make. Even when you do the most intricate of designs, Washi cards are easy to make and a card can be done in as little as 10 minutes. Second: they always look unique. There's so many ways to approach Washi cards. You can alternate strips, use all different kinds, layer and crisscross etc. And if you're like me, you have more Washi tape than you know what to do with. This week I used Washi tape for two different challenges. Let's take a look. Over on Scrapping4Fun Challenges , they had a simple task: Gladly! This is a simple design with an assortment of different brands of Washi tape. For my second challenge, I was inspired by Just Us Girls Challenge blog. The task was wholly unique as they celebrate their 600th challenge! I used the same ideas as the card above but embellished it with 6 pumpkin stickers. What you can't see here is the way these pumpkin stickers come...

Black and White Z Card

Over on the Just Us Girls challenge blog , the task this week was quite monochromatic. Let's take a look at the challenge: I can't say that I've ever worked with just black and white for a card. While no doubt I probably inadvertently made a card with this scheme, I can't say I've gone out of my way to enhance only black and white (I know I've definitely grey scaled before).  It was my dear friend Melinda's birthday. For her birthday I made her and her husband Mah Jongg t-shirts using HTV. I was thrilled with the results: Melinda is the kind of person who loves handmade cards, so I went into this challenge with her in mind. I also have recently fallen in love with Z fold cards (see my vintage masculine Z-Card here ). I pulled out my Sizzix Circle Thinlits and my Recollections Black and White Paper and got to work. Here are the results: So the interesting thing with a Z-fold card is how it unfolds in so many dimensions. Here is the front and back layer. Her...

Gothic Window Wedding Cards

Over on the Just Us Girls Challenge Blog , the challenge this week was simple: No Stamping. They invited us to "use dies, stickers, ephemera, mixed media techniques, watercolouring... anything and everything that does *not* include stamping." One of my coworkers is getting married June 27th, and so I went to work. I immediately pulled out my Gothic 3D Concentric Frame Dies . I love these dies, but I want to differentiate the card from what I had done before. I recently acquired the 12x12 Perfect Palette Metallic Paper  and utilized the pink which gave these cards a fresher appeal. For my first card I layered the dies and added a few flower embellishments in opposite parallel. For my second card, I created another symmetrical card but utilized a more flower background to make the flowers pop. I was really happy with how these cards came out. What isn't captured in photos is how the metallic paper catches the light.  If you enjoy what you see, be sure to hit the SUBSCRIBE b...

Bird House Cards: Color Challenge

Hey crafters! It's been a minute. My craftspiration has been low, but in truth, I've also been busy on a few projects. I'm working on a teaching blog series, dedicating more times towards playing video games and enjoying the nicer weather. So the crafting is on the back seat.  That said, yesterday I found a bit of time with myself, so I got to use some of the new items I acquired. The Just Us Girls Challenge group posted this beautiful color combo this Saturday. The color combo was as follows: The colors definitely showcased a spring vibe to me. Which was perfect because I just acquire my Birdhouse Easel Card Dies from Anna Griffin. I compiled my paper and went to work. Here were the results: The card and the embossing actually didn't take a particularly long time. What gave me a heart attack was when I went to apply the purple house to the purple cardstock. That was a complete accident! I meant to apply the purple colored house to the blue backing. I was devastated b...
