Lion Cards

I mentioned yesterday in my Koala Cards post that I had a huge win with an abundance of clearance stamps at Hobby Lobby. These stamps come from Tracey Hey, but my Hobby Lobby had them for a mere $2.49! Anyway, I was super excited by these pretty big stamps, but I knew the tactic had to be different as A2 size would be too small for these huge stamps. I made these cards for two distinct challenges.

Over on Making the Cards they had this sketch challenge:

And here's my interpretation of that challenge:

I've never really done this type of coloring before where you don't color the whole image, and it wasn't until assembly that I ended up happy with how it looked. All cards were colored using Copic Markers.

For the second card, I went with Sweet Sketch Wednesday's sketch challenge. 
I don't make too many square cards so it was nice to be challenged in a different way. I went into my scrap box and used an assortment of circle scraps to complete the sketch:
In my first card, I thought the yellow was too vibrant so I mixed Y15 Cashmere Yellow and E33 Sand to create this deeper yellowy orange which felt more true to the lion's actual color. Here you can see the dimension of the card:
Along with the message inside "Be Awesome, Be Brave, Be Kind, Be You:
Overall, I'm really happy with how this square card came out, and I might just be making a few more square cards in the future.

    Very cute cards Danny, I love this sweet image. I do love the great bright colours you've used, they are so much fun. I've never used that technique by not colouring all the image I must try it out. Great card and thanks so much for sharing it with us over at Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2 and good luck.

Black and White Z Card

Over on the Just Us Girls challenge blog , the task this week was quite monochromatic. Let's take a look at the challenge: I can't say that I've ever worked with just black and white for a card. Anna Griffin Empress Machine Review

For the past few months, I've really given my Anna Griffin Empress Machine a workout. For those not in the know, The Empress is a high powered non-crank emboss and die cutting machine. It's akin to devices such as the Cuttlebug, The Big Shot, or the Gemini. I Have a Cricut / Cameo / Silhouette - Why This? The short answer is, you can create texture in your cards. While the aforementioned devices are no doubt powerful and create designs that the Empress can only dream about, there's no doubt that emboss machines give textures and creates intricacy that cutting machines cannot compete with. My most complimented cards are not the ones with the most layers or even the most elegant, rather it's the cards with texture. Cricut and other Cutting Machines just lack that  ability to create the"feel" of a higher quality card. Pros of the Empress I absolutely adore my Empress. HSN's 24 Hour of Craft is Underway!

Today is a 24 hours of crafts on HSN! We know how these days go. A host of craft items are showcased throughout the day, along with numerous deals. Today's big craft item is We R Keeper's all new Colop E-Mark Create Craft Printer . Normally retailing for $349.99, the price today on HSN is $299.99. To me, it looks amazing. If you haven't seen it in action, take a look: I love the idea of it, especially as a replacement for all those times where I'm looking for that perfect stamp. That said, I do have some big questions. Most importantly, how long does the ink last? Does it run for a 100 prints? 50 prints? 1,000 prints? There's no way of knowing, and no specification clarifies this.  Additionally, extra ink cartridges cost a startling $49.99. That's steep, even by ink cartridges standards.  This is rife with potential, but until a bigger bundle comes out with extra inks and those first reviews clarify some of my concerns, this item is getting a hard pass.
