Koala Cards

My local Hobby Lobby had a blowout sale on a number of stamps, and I loaded up (which means tons of inspiration for the next few weeks). I was excited about these koala stamps thatwere so charming from first sight. The stamps come from Art Impressions, but my Hobby Lobby had these marked down on clearance for $3.49. I made these koala cards for two distinct challenges. Let's take a look.

The first challenge is courtesy of The Color Throwdown blog. Here were the colors they wanted makers to use:

And here's what I did with the red, blue, green and grey.
I used Copic Markers to color in the koala. The background is a basic cuttlebug brand emboss folder.

For my second card, I used Paper Craft Crew's sketch. I used the exact same stamp, but without color restrictions, I made a far more eclectic card. Here's the sketch:
And here's the card I made based on the sketch:
Using 3D Dot adhesives, this card ended up with a lot of dimension. Here's another view of the card:
Overall, I'm really happy with how the cards came out. The rhinestones gave this a nice extra element along with the two different embossed folders.

Be sure to check back tomorrow as I'm working on some lion cards that I'm super excited about.

Anna Griffin Empress Machine Review

For the past few months, I've really given my Anna Griffin Empress Machine a workout. For those not in the know, The Empress is a high powered non-crank emboss and die cutting machine. It's akin to devices such as the Cuttlebug, The Big Shot, or the Gemini. I Have a Cricut / Cameo / Silhouette - Why This? The short answer is, you can create texture in your cards. While the aforementioned devices are no doubt powerful and create designs that the Empress can only dream about, there's no doubt that emboss machines give textures and creates intricacy that cutting machines cannot compete with. My most complimented cards are not the ones with the most layers or even the most elegant, rather it's the cards with texture. Cricut and other Cutting Machines just lack that  ability to create the"feel" of a higher quality card. Pros of the Empress I absolutely adore my Empress. For those with arthritis or other mobility issues, a device like the Empress is a ...

Anna Griffin's Slimline Compendium Dies Review

Anna Griffin's new Slimline Compendium dies feel essential. In the past few months, several companies as well as crafters showcased Slimline cards. These much taller (and much slimmer) cards measuring an astounding 8" x 9" and fit into business sized envelopes. They looked attractive, and while no doubt, anyone could cut the base with a bone folder and a paper cutter, the dimensions feel so unwieldy, it does feel intimidating.  Enter Anna Griffin's Slimline Compendium Dies. Now everyone knows that I'm one of Anna Griffin's biggest fans. The Empress is to me, bar none, the best die cutter out there. Additionally, her dies always impress, and I rarely feel disappointed in any die set I purchase.  But the Slimline dies feel next level. Maybe it's just the sheer quantity of dies. While other sets for the same price offer two or three intricate cuts, this set offers an outrageous 21 dies. And while each die is a variation on the other, it gives the set a wholly...

The Card Concept #138d Entry: Seashell Cards

This week The Card Concept showcased another inspiration photo. As soon as I saw this week's photo, I knew exactly which paper pads to grab and get to work because this week's image was none other than a seashell image: I love nothing more than mermaid-like cards. If anything, in my craft room in the back there's an overabundance of ocean and mermaid themed craft items. Something about the configuration of the sea shells made it clear that I didn't want to make anything too over-embellished. Instead, I thought elegance and clean layers.  So this is my clean and layered  sea-inspired card.  I used my Mermaid Coast paper pad to create the base, then I used the same paper pad to layer the mermaid gold and again for the main circle. The just for you  and the various sea shells were made using my colop e-mark printer . I found the wooden seahorse at Michael's in the clearance section and glued it on to give the card a little extra dimension and texture.  As always,...
