Valentine's Sketch Challenge: Valentine's Day Critter Cards

I'm gearing up for Valentine's Day this week. Over the weekend, I spent time with some new stamps and got to coloring. After some ho-hum attempts the prior week, I was ready to make some Valentine's cards with a little style. When I'm really stumped with what to do with a variety pieces, nothing helps more than a couple of Sketch Challenges. The first challenge comes courtesy of Sweet Sketch Wednesday.

The Sketch was as follows:

And here was my product. I used Washi Tape and rhinestones at the bottom, which really gave this card the flair it needed.

Over on The Paper Players, their sketch challenge also gave me heaps of inspiration.

The L shape around the border gave me some pause. But with a little Washi Tape, I came up with just the right solution.

Unfortunately, I didn't check the date on the third contest I was entering, so I missed the deadline. Nevertheless, I would have submitted this card to Just Add Ink.

Here was the sketch:

And here was my submission:

I'm not mad about it though. Still an adorable card, and very happy with the results. All the card stock is from a Hot Buy Paper Pack at Michael's, and the stamps are this year's 2020 Recollections Valentine's Set

I Love You to the Moon and Back Bendy Card

Update: While the competition wasn't heavily entered, I'll take my wins where I can get them, my card was a top pick on Try Stampin' on Tuesday. Over on Try Stampin' on Tuesday , they had one of the hardest challenges I've seen in a long while. The challenge involved either utilizing a particular sketch or making a bendy card. I'm one always up for a challenge, so a bendy card it is... the only problem... I had no idea where to begin. Here's the challenge they set up for us: I was convinced there would be some type of design already premade on Design Space that would allow me to make a bendy card of some kind, but there was no such luck. I took a look at Melody Lane's Patreon and Lori Whitlock's shop, and alas, no luck. This mean I had to work from scratch. Now granted, I could make the card using traditional techniques, but when I looked up tutorials, the whole process looked a little too intimidating for me. I knew this could be done on Design Spa...

3D Fantastic Fans Cards

I recently acquired Anna Griffin's 3D Fantastic Fans dies . I was excited to get these dies because it takes the traditional flat fans and reenvisions them with more dimension.  The dies require a little more finagling than you would think. Because they pop out, you're going to need a powerful glue or lots of 3D adhesive dots to make this work.  Using these dies, I looked at an assortment of challenges that I could utilize for inspiration. Over on Time Out Challenges, they wanted us to use a quote to help make a card come to life. So for my first card I wanted to use each of the pieces of the fan. I've had this vintage paper with a rose for the better part of four years when I first got into card making; I then pulled out my new metallic rose paper and paired it with this vintage paper. I then added in the "For My Friend" sentiment from Anna Griffin's Wild Flower box. For my second card, I used Color My Heart Color Dare challenge . The inspiration photo was ...

Baby Cards: Sketch Challenges

Over on Anna Griffin, she recently released her Baby Icon Cut and Emboss Folders . Baby cards are often the hardest items for me to keep in stock. They're often my biggest sellers at trade shows, and as someone in their 30s, I know so many people having little ones. So I went to work. I really didn't know where to begin my day, so I started with creating a whole slew of sentiments. I often struggle with what a baby card should say, but Best Wishes kind of covers all the bases. But that didn't really help with inspiration. I went looking for Sketch Challenges. The first challenge comes courtesy of Sketch Saturday :  And here was my result: Using an assortment of pattern papers, I was really happy with the result. I ended up using the horsey cut so that the little mustache could peek through. Over on Try Stampin' on Tuesday , they're up to their milestone 500th sketch. Here was the sketch: And here was my creation based on that: I was thrilled with this result. It fe...
