Festive Friday Challenge 0074: O Christmas Tree

Recently I've been searching for a reason to pull out my Anna Griffin Christmas Tree Pop Up Cards. Anyone who knows anything about pop up cards knows, they take approximately forever to make. While by no means the longest I've spent, these dies are definitely show-stopping wow cards that take a fair amount of time to make (anywhere from 1 to 2 hours). Over on the Festive Friday Challenge blog, they asked makers to use three or more items from a list. The list was as follows:

For me, this was easy. red, ornaments, ribbon and evergreen trees were the highlight. So here's the card in question:

Now you might say, but Danny, that's not really an evergreen tree. And that's because it's not. The surprise is when you open the card and this pops out:

And here's the card in action:

And because I can never make one of anything, here's the green version of the same card.

While time consuming, this is definitely a card type I will return to again next holiday season, especially because I purchased so many potential embellishments for the tree.

Anna Griffin Empress Machine Review

For the past few months, I've really given my Anna Griffin Empress Machine a workout. For those not in the know, The Empress is a high powered non-crank emboss and die cutting machine. It's akin to devices such as the Cuttlebug, The Big Shot, or the Gemini. I Have a Cricut / Cameo / Silhouette - Why This? The short answer is, you can create texture in your cards. While the aforementioned devices are no doubt powerful and create designs that the Empress can only dream about, there's no doubt that emboss machines give textures and creates intricacy that cutting machines cannot compete with. My most complimented cards are not the ones with the most layers or even the most elegant, rather it's the cards with texture. Cricut and other Cutting Machines just lack that  ability to create the"feel" of a higher quality card. Pros of the Empress I absolutely adore my Empress. For those with arthritis or other mobility issues, a device like the Empress is a ...

Black and White Z Card

Over on the Just Us Girls challenge blog , the task this week was quite monochromatic. Let's take a look at the challenge: I can't say that I've ever worked with just black and white for a card. While no doubt I probably inadvertently made a card with this scheme, I can't say I've gone out of my way to enhance only black and white (I know I've definitely grey scaled before).  It was my dear friend Melinda's birthday. For her birthday I made her and her husband Mah Jongg t-shirts using HTV. I was thrilled with the results: Melinda is the kind of person who loves handmade cards, so I went into this challenge with her in mind. I also have recently fallen in love with Z fold cards (see my vintage masculine Z-Card here ). I pulled out my Sizzix Circle Thinlits and my Recollections Black and White Paper and got to work. Here are the results: So the interesting thing with a Z-fold card is how it unfolds in so many dimensions. Here is the front and back layer. Her...
