Hand Stamped Sentiments Entry #349: Haunted House Card

Halloween inspiration continues this week. I've been waiting for a more open challenge to finally pull out my Anna Griffin Haunted House Easel Card Die. Knowing how time consuming these types of dies are, I needed a challenge with plenty of flexibility. Thankfully, I found one from the Hand Stamped Sentiments blog. This week, the blog featured this inspiration photo:

In the bottom right corner stood the Haunted House. Needless to say, I knew what I was doing with my Monday. As usual, these types of dies are time consuming, not because of the initial cut, but all the little intricate pieces, of which you only get a few dies to help cut. I spent most of the time recutting shutters. Is the die worth it? Only for those really special people in your life. Nevertheless, here are the results:


I am always making in two, but I wasn't sure what color combinations would stand out. While the black house with white shutters looks sleek, I'm super fond of the purple house with orange shutters which is garishly spooktacular.

Let's take a closer look:

The first house took a little over an hour for assembly. I didn't quite know which shutters went with which. I also cut out purple frames for the windows on the bottom. I thought the effect would be cool on the purple background. Instead, the effect was just sort of "meh."


As for the second house, this all went much quicker (right around ~45 minutes). I knew exactly what I needed to cut. I also knew to make the bottom shudders pop as well.

And that's really it. 

I've done so many easel cards this week that it's time to go for something simpler in the next few days. Check back later this week for my very first CAS (clean and simple) cards.

For the past few months, I've really given my Anna Griffin Empress Machine a workout. For those not in the know, The Empress is a high powered non-crank emboss and die cutting machine. Anna Griffin's Slimline Compendium Dies Review

Anna Griffin's new Slimline Compendium dies feel essential. In the past few months, several companies as well as crafters showcased Slimline cards. These much taller (and much slimmer) cards measuring an astounding 8" x 9" and fit into business sized envelopes. They looked attractive, and while no doubt, anyone could cut the base with a bone folder and a paper cutter, the dimensions feel so unwieldy, it does feel intimidating.  Enter Anna Griffin's Slimline Compendium Dies. Now everyone knows that I'm one of Anna Griffin's biggest fans. The Empress is to me, bar none, the best die cutter out there. Additionally, her dies always impress, and I rarely feel disappointed in any die set I purchase.  But the Slimline dies feel next level. Maybe it's just the sheer quantity of dies. The Card Concept #138d Entry: Seashell Cards

This week The Card Concept showcased another inspiration photo. As soon as I saw this week's photo, I knew exactly which paper pads to grab and get to work because this week's image was none other than a seashell image: I love nothing more than mermaid-like cards. If anything, in my craft room in the back there's an overabundance of ocean and mermaid themed craft items. Something about the configuration of the sea shells made it clear that I didn't want to make anything too over-embellished. Instead, I thought elegance and clean layers.  So this is my clean and layered  sea-inspired card.  I used my Mermaid Coast paper pad to create the base, then I used the same paper pad to layer the mermaid gold and again for the main circle. The just for you  and the various sea shells were made using my colop e-mark printer . I found the wooden seahorse at Michael's in the clearance section and glued it on to give the card a little extra dimension and texture.  As always,...
