Halloween Fun Fold Cards

Halloween is approaching (as is my Blooming Hill Farm card show), so cards are in abundance. At this point, I'm not even sure what to make. I have cards for nearly every occasion, so you might see me making stranger things than usual. If I've learned anything from card shows, it's never one particular thing that becomes a best seller, it's a wide variety. The more different items--the better.

So what's better than a whole bunch of unusual looking cards.

Over on the Sweet Stampin' Challenge Blog, they had one idea in mind: "The Colours of Autumn." That couldn't have been any easier to work with. Here are a few autumn flavored Halloween cards I made yesterday:

The idea of all these fun folds came from Double Trouble Paper Crafting. They had one idea in mind:
Use your scoring board to create a different fold than normal. My favorite kind of unusual fold is a Z-Card, so I made a special Z-Card just for this challenge. Normally, I decorate my Z-Folds in a particular way, but I went the extra mile with a few extra fun embellishments. There are lots of pictures because there are so many ways to view this card.

The first part is a layer I found from a scrap book.
The second part uses paper from a Halloween Recollections collection and a few mixed media pieces from Tim Holtz.
And then at the end is a Recollections "Happy Halloween" stamp.

Black and White Z Card

Over on the Just Us Girls challenge blog , the task this week was quite monochromatic. Let's take a look at the challenge: I can't say that I've ever worked with just black and white for a card. While no doubt I probably inadvertently made a card with this scheme, I can't say I've gone out of my way to enhance only black and white (I know I've definitely grey scaled before).  It was my dear friend Melinda's birthday. For her birthday I made her and her husband Mah Jongg t-shirts using HTV. Anna Griffin Empress Machine Review

For the past few months, I've really given my Anna Griffin Empress Machine a workout. For those not in the know, The Empress is a high powered non-crank emboss and die cutting machine. It's akin to devices such as the Cuttlebug, The Big Shot, or the Gemini. I Have a Cricut / Cameo / Silhouette - Why This? The short answer is, you can create texture in your cards. While the aforementioned devices are no doubt powerful and create designs that the Empress can only dream about, there's no doubt that emboss machines give textures and creates intricacy that cutting machines cannot compete with. My most complimented cards are not the ones with the most layers or even the most elegant, rather it's the cards with texture. Cricut and other Cutting Machines just lack that  ability to create the"feel" of a higher quality card. Pros of the Empress I absolutely adore my Empress. For those with arthritis or other mobility issues, a device like the Empress is a

HSN's 24 Hour of Craft is Underway!

Today is a 24 hours of crafts on HSN! We know how these days go. A host of craft items are showcased throughout the day, along with numerous deals. Today's big craft item is We R Keeper's all new Colop E-Mark Create Craft Printer . Normally retailing for $349.99, the price today on HSN is $299.99. To me, it looks amazing. If you haven't seen it in action, take a look: I love the idea of it, especially as a replacement for all those times where I'm looking for that perfect stamp. That said, I do have some big questions. Most importantly, how long does the ink last? Does it run for a 100 prints? 50 prints? 1,000 prints? There's no way of knowing, and no specification clarifies this.  Additionally, extra ink cartridges cost a startling $49.99. That's steep, even by ink cartridges standards.  This is rife with potential, but until a bigger bundle comes out with extra inks and those first reviews clarify some of my concerns, this item is getting a hard pass.
