Geometric Christmas Cards

After a card show I have one of two feelings. One: I feel reinvigorated and want to craft as much as humanly possible. Or two: I'm exhausted and I need some R & R to get my creative flow back in check. After my last show I fell firmly into the latter category.  Thankfully, November is here, and with that comes a host of Christmas and holiday inspiration. Inspiration struck yesterday thanks to Sketch Saturday's wonderful sketch #686 .  Here's the sketch in question: A fun sketch no doubt. I just purchased the Starry Night Recollections paper from Michaels, and so using that and this sketch, here were my two creations. Here's my submission piece: As you can see, the gold foiling really catches the light. It's quite a stunner. My second piece I was also really proud of: I'm all about that blue and gold Christmas, so I was super thrilled with how these came out.  Hopefully, my inspiration keeps coming. Thankfully, I have a number of holiday cards I have to make,

Halloween Fun Fold Cards

Halloween is approaching (as is my Blooming Hill Farm card show), so cards are in abundance. At this point, I'm not even sure what to make. I have cards for nearly every occasion, so you might see me making stranger things than usual. If I've learned anything from card shows, it's never one particular thing that becomes a best seller, it's a wide variety. The more different items--the better. So what's better than a whole bunch of unusual looking cards. Over on the Sweet Stampin' Challenge Blog , they had one idea in mind: "The Colours of Autumn." That couldn't have been any easier to work with. Here are a few autumn flavored Halloween cards I made yesterday: I learned this technique of card from Jackie Bolhuis. You can watch the full video tutorial on her YouTube .  Here is a full Halloween card that I'm not submitting to any place in particular: If you don't know what these card looks like when they're opening, take a look at my video

Halloween Washi Cards

There are few cards I love making more than Washi cards. One: ease of making. Washi cards are so easy to make. Even when you do the most intricate of designs, Washi cards are easy to make and a card can be done in as little as 10 minutes. Second: they always look unique. There's so many ways to approach Washi cards. You can alternate strips, use all different kinds, layer and crisscross etc. And if you're like me, you have more Washi tape than you know what to do with. This week I used Washi tape for two different challenges. Let's take a look. Over on Scrapping4Fun Challenges , they had a simple task: Gladly! This is a simple design with an assortment of different brands of Washi tape. For my second challenge, I was inspired by Just Us Girls Challenge blog. The task was wholly unique as they celebrate their 600th challenge! I used the same ideas as the card above but embellished it with 6 pumpkin stickers. What you can't see here is the way these pumpkin stickers come

Scaredy Cat Cards

I'm working on a whole slew of Halloween and Fall cards as my card show is around the corner (September 26th). I've never done a card show during the Halloween and Fall season so it will be interesting to see how it plays out. Anyway, I was in need of inspiration and Color My Heart Color Dare Challenge Blog had the perfect colors to get me going. The colors to work with were white, black and gold. Perfect! I recently acquired my Anna Griffin Scaredy Cat dies . Currently, they're only available on HSN, but I will also note to other Griffinites looking for that Halloween spirit that she dropped her Halloween Cut and Emboss Folders on her website just this week. Anyway, on with the show. The card I'm submitting I'm super proud of--let's take a look: I used a black and white feathered background to give a spooky appeal. Then I used an assortment of different black white and golds for the desired effect. The gold is extremely reflective so you can see my shadow of

Lion Cards

I mentioned yesterday in my Koala Cards post that I had a huge win with an abundance of clearance stamps at Hobby Lobby. These stamps come from Tracey Hey , but my Hobby Lobby had them for a mere $2.49! Anyway, I was super excited by these pretty big stamps, but I knew the tactic had to be different as A2 size would be too small for these huge stamps. I made these cards for two distinct challenges. Over on Making the Cards they had this sketch challenge: And here's my interpretation of that challenge: I've never really done this type of coloring before where you don't color the whole image, and it wasn't until assembly that I ended up happy with how it looked. All cards were colored using Copic Markers. For the second card, I went with Sweet Sketch Wednesday's sketch challenge.  I don't make too many square cards so it was nice to be challenged in a different way. I went into my scrap box and used an assortment of circle scraps to complete the sketch: In my f

Koala Cards

My local Hobby Lobby had a blowout sale on a number of stamps, and I loaded up (which means tons of inspiration for the next few weeks). I was excited about these koala stamps thatwere so charming from first sight. The stamps come from Art Impressions , but my Hobby Lobby had these marked down on clearance for $3.49. I made these koala cards for two distinct challenges. Let's take a look. The first challenge is courtesy of The Color Throwdown blog. Here were the colors they wanted makers to use: And here's what I did with the red, blue, green and grey. I used Copic Markers to color in the koala. The background is a basic cuttlebug brand emboss folder. For my second card, I used Paper Craft Crew's sketch. I used the exact same stamp, but without color restrictions, I made a far more eclectic card. Here's the sketch: And here's the card I made based on the sketch: Using 3D Dot adhesives, this card ended up with a lot of dimension. Here's another view of the card

Black and White Z Card

Over on the Just Us Girls challenge blog , the task this week was quite monochromatic. Let's take a look at the challenge: I can't say that I've ever worked with just black and white for a card. While no doubt I probably inadvertently made a card with this scheme, I can't say I've gone out of my way to enhance only black and white (I know I've definitely grey scaled before).  It was my dear friend Melinda's birthday. For her birthday I made her and her husband Mah Jongg t-shirts using HTV. I was thrilled with the results: Melinda is the kind of person who loves handmade cards, so I went into this challenge with her in mind. I also have recently fallen in love with Z fold cards (see my vintage masculine Z-Card here ). I pulled out my Sizzix Circle Thinlits and my Recollections Black and White Paper and got to work. Here are the results: So the interesting thing with a Z-fold card is how it unfolds in so many dimensions. Here is the front and back layer. Her
